Housing – the SEVille development

Sherwood Energy Village was primarily about economic diversification and job creation at the time of pit closure. However, very soon afterwards the element of the SEV concept that gripped everyone’s attention was housing.

The SEV organisation is the housing developer. We have rejected the option of selling off the eleven-acres allocated to either private housing developers or housing associations. The challenge for Britain is to provide housing types that people want, and which perform well in terms of environmental performance including:
  • Reduced energy costs
  • Water efficiency
  • Well-built, architect-designed dwellings
  • Sense of space, community spirit
  • Safe, secure environment
  • Walking distance from shops and services
  • A nice place to live, work and play, and which people can buy to occupy
The list could go on, so, many others do. Our research has shown that this is the appropriate type of development for this site.

There are 196 dwellings planned for the Energy Village. These range from single dwelling bungalows and apartments through to terraced, semi-detached and detached housing – all are for sale freehold. Currently, there are eleven different housing types architecturally designed to achieve Eco-Homes Excellent rating as a minimum.

Sherwood Energy Village is not an “intentional” community or commune. SEVille is not a local authority or housing association scheme (see Frequently Asked Questions).

The houses are for sale freehold. We believe that mainstream housing should encompass environmental standards as an integral element. For more information on Seville, please visit www.seville.uk.com
